Median sale price depends more on where a name changed hands than on the name itself. A median domain clears $60 at one venue and $4,000 at another. Any single marketplace can only report its own book, so this comparison needs a corpus that spans them.
Every venue below cleared at least 2,000 recorded sales. Prices are USD.

What a median domain costs
Measured inside a single marketplace, so the line reflects prices rather than which venues were being recorded that year. The corpus’s largest venue, 1.2 million sales, continuously present since 2021.

Where names change hands
Recorded sales by extension. This is a count of transactions observed, not a claim about what any extension is worth — median price by extension is governed by which marketplaces trade it, so it is reported by venue above instead.

What these numbers are not
- Not a registration count
- This is a corpus of sales, not a census of the DNS. It cannot tell you how many domains exist on an extension — only how often one was recorded changing hands.
- Not every sale
- Private transactions are only here when they were reported. Public marketplace sales are covered far better than brokered ones, so the corpus under-represents the top of the market.
- Not adjusted for inflation
- Prices are nominal USD as recorded. A 2005 sale and a 2026 sale are not directly comparable.
- Not a valuation
- A median is what a typical name fetched, not what yours will. Domain Value Analysis estimates a single name; Investment Analysis scores a whole keyword.
All figures measured 12 August 2026 against Bishopi’s own corpus. Non-USD sales (0.06% of rows) are excluded rather than converted.
